My Favorite Spread(s)
With so many beautiful and letterforms it is really hard for me to choose just one that I feel stands above the rest. I really love the creativity that was but into the letterforms and images of the “inside-out” book. I think the letterforms are so colorful and energetic the really give life to the desaturated but beautiful black and white images that they are paired with. But, I guess if I had to choose two images I would say that I love the (red) XX that is paired with the indigenous looking shaker (?) that has an X woven into it in red with a white background. Part of the reason I love this image is that it reminds me of folkart and that is really exciting to me. This image is clean and straight forward despite the shaker’s leaning position and the right skewed position of the image. When I see this image I see strength, simplicity and pride of a tradition. The red letter X and the font chosen mirror my ideas about this image beautifully.
Another image that I love is the link of chain that placed in the grass in the shape of the letter “U”. I find the text that is written around the chain to be really sincere and beautiful. Forgive me but this is done from memory, I will post the exact words on Monday. The words lend to the notion of not being confined to our modernity and being a free and soul seeking spirit. This rigid chain has been set free amongst the organic and lush earth. I also like how the two blend together neutrally in color. They almost seem to get lost against the other.
My favorite image that I created is the “V”, almost purely for sentimental reasons. This image was taken last New Years Eve at the Smokey Mountains. On this particular day we were hiking with our dogs on a closed trail. The air was so clean and crisp. It was a really peaceful and joyous walk. When I see this photo I am instantly reminded of all of the sensations and emotions I had on this walk simply by the contrast of light between the different textures of bark on the tree, and this makes me very happy.
